An Introduction to Peristrophe
Peristrophe (etymologically from Greek, literally “twisted or turned around” ) is a figure of speechOpens in new window which consists exclusively in the conversion of an adversary’s argument to one’s own use.
This trope consists when the speaker takes up the words of the interlocutor, or of the adversary, and alter their meaning to the effect of the speaker’s own advantage.
